Frequently Asked Questions

What’s included with the Be Body Positive Middle School Educator Training and Classroom Curriculum?
You'll have access to the 6-hour training to become licensed to teach our Be Body Positive Classroom Curriculum. Once completed, you will receive the Be Body Positive Classroom Curriculum for the grade you are teaching. We have currently completed the curriculum for 6th, 7th, and 8th grade, and are working on the K-5 curriculum. Each grade has twenty 30-minute lessons.

What’s the difference between the Middle School Be Body Positive Group Curriculum and the Be Body Positive Classroom Curriculum for middle schools?
The lessons in the middle school Group Curriculum are designed for an intimate group of students (around 6-12) who will be doing a lot of self-exploration and sharing with one another. The purpose of these group lessons is to help students go deep into their personal body story and have a powerful community experience with a small group. They can be facilitated anywhere, by anyone—teachers, therapists/counselors, dietitians, community organizers, etc. They are ideal for students who are struggling with their relationship with their body and/or who have interest in the topic.

The lessons in the middle school Classroom Curriculum are specifically designed to be done during the school day with an entire classroom of student. They contain student objectives, essential questions, and enduring understandings. There are PowerPoints that go along with many of the lessons. While there are lots of guided discussions and some can get personal, the conversation topics are not quite as personal as the ones found in the group curriculum. There are worksheets, handouts, and final projects that are academic in nature. These lessons also include lesson extensions that relate to specific subject areas, supports for English learners, and all lessons are aligned to Common Core Standards and CASEL Core Competencies.

What’s the difference between the Facilitator Training for the Middle School Be Body Positive Group Curriculum and the Be Body Positive Classroom Curriculum Teacher Training?
The Be Body Positive Facilitator Training is designed to support folks to facilitate the Group Curriculum, directed mostly towards folks working with middle school, high school, and college students, as well as high school and college students themselves. It includes examples of how to facilitate some of the lessons, and lots of tips for getting a Body Positive group or club formed on a school campus and facilitating responsibly in those sorts of settings.

The Be Body Positive Educator Training is designed for kindergarten through 8th grade teachers who want to facilitate the classroom curriculum. The content emphasizes and details the importance of each of The 5 Competencies of the Be Body Positive Model for younger learners, and supports educators in creating a Body Positive classroom environment for their students. You do not have to be a classroom teacher to take this training, but you should know that it is geared towards classroom teachers. A reminder that as of October 2023 we have completed lessons for 6th, 7th, and 8th grades only. We are fundraising now to complete the lessons for kindergarten through 5th grade.

Can I get Continuing Professional Development Units (CPDUs) for taking this course?
Not yet, but we plan to get approval for this course as soon as possible.

If I’ve already taken the Be Body Positive Facilitator Training, do I have to take this one as well, or can I just purchase the curriculum?
You do need to take this training as well, as there is important content that is not found in the Facilitator Training.

What are CE Hours? Should I get them?

CE Hours are Continuing Education Hours that treatment providers require in order to keep their licenses up to date. At this time, we offer them for master’s-level therapists and registered dietitians. If you don’t hold one of these professional licenses, we are unable to provide you with CE Hours.

The Body Positive has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 6698. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified. The Body Positive is solely responsible for all aspects of the programs.

The Body Positive is a Continuing Professional Education (CPE) Accredited provider with the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR). Our CDR provider number is ABB6426. CDR Credentialed Practitioners are responsible for choosing a learning need code (LNC) for this course that best meets their individual goals.

I'm a treatment provider: How do I get my CE certificate?

You will receive your certificate of completion with 11.5 CE Hours as a Master’s-level therapist or registered dietitian once you finish 100% of the course, fill out the evaluation, and score at least 80% on the course's final quiz. Once all these steps are complete, you will be eligible to receive your certificate with CE Hours. The instructions are spelled out in the About the Course section of the course. To become a licensed Be Body Positive Facilitator so you can teach our comprehensive, research-based curriculum to others, you will need to complete the Facilitator Training for Treatment Providers.
